Instructional Support Teams:
Job Description

At the beginning of each school year, site ISTs and classroom teachers will:
  • Examine available student academic performance data by site, grade level and class.
  • Collaborate on appropriate instructional and differentiation strategies to meet the needs of students.
  • Determine precise and effective intervention opportunities for all students.

Throughout the year, site ISTs will:
  • Co-teach and model instructional strategies in classrooms.
  • Identify resources for teachers that support identified strategies and differentiation.
  • Support teachers via peer coaching.
  • Monitor student progress.
  • Adjust strategies and interventions based on the data.

The specialists’ job functions will be redefined to include participation in ISTs
The redefinition will:
  • Grant flexibility and equity in the delivery of services to students
  • Provide time and reallocate resources for job-embedded staff development.

Juneau School District IST:
As a district IST, our job is much the same as it is at the site level. Representing our buildings, the district ISTs will be able to recommend professional development needs to Office of Instructional services. One of the most exciting aspects is that the district IST will support a tenure track professional development plan for new teachers. We would expect that as the teacher evaluation tool is revised the tenure track will reflect that, so that the ISTs are supporting teachers to be successful in their professional development.

  1. Demographics

  • Project trends in teacher staffing and readiness
  • Identify district-wide professional development needs and opportunities
  • Examine District phenomena through the lens of equity
  • Develop and support tenure-track professional development for new teachers
